There is no secret to golf. The secret of success is
practice, constant but intelligent practice. ~
Mr. Earnest Jones
Currently, I am a Fully
Certified LEVEL III Golf Teaching Professional through the
United States Golf Teachers
Federation (USGTF). I
have met all required standards of playing, teaching, and written
aspects of the USGTF. The teaching examination was a 30 minute in-depth
look at all aspects of golf including the full swing, short game,
terminology and mental aspects of the game of golf. This included giving
a "live" golf lesson. I received the highest grade ever given by my
examiner, Mr. Booth Kates. The written test was based on the rules &
etiquette aspects of the game of golf. The certification process took
place March 31 through April 5th, 2007 at Wachesaw Plantation East in
Murrels Inlet, SC. A special Thank You to Course Director, Mr. Bob Wyatt
Jr. and Course Examiner, Mr. H. Booth Kates.
The USGTF® was founded and
incorporated in 1989. It is the largest organization of golf teaching
professionals in the world, with the main office located in Port Saint
Lucie, Florida. The aim of the USGTF is to train and certify well
qualified teaching professionals to serve the American golf public. The
USGTF is The Leader in the Field of Golf Instruction.
In addition, I am formerly
affiliated with the PGA of America. I passed the Players Ability Test
(P.A.T.) as one of the many requirements of the P.G.A. of America on
June 25, 1997. The P.A.T. took place at beautiful Lake Valley Golf Club
in Longmont, Colorado. (Coincidentally, Mr. Ben Hogan, one of the
Greatest Golfers passed away on this same day June 25th, 1997) After
playing in a one-day 36 hole event, I had a total score of 80 + 70 = 150
with a "target score" being 151. Out of a field of 42 players, myself
and only three other players successfully passed the P.A.T. for the both
the P.G.A. and USGTF.
Playing Experience
Continued:
As a Junior golfer, I
participated in several events, including the "Bobby Hoey" Cayuga County
Junior Golf Championship and Syracuse Junior Golf Association
Tournaments. I competed in other Cayuga County Amateur events including
the Men's Amateur coming in the top 10 a few times with a personal best
4th place finish. From 1986-1991, I played High School Golf during my
Freshman to Senior year. As my stroke average decreased, I was able to
move up to the number one spot on the team by my Junior/Senior years in
high school. After successfully competing at the high school level , I
played Division II College Golf in St. Petersburg/Tampa Florida. My
first competitive round of golf in the 60's was played at World Worlds
Golf Club:
Pine
Barrens Coursein Brooksville, FL. I shot 69 in a
North Florida P.G.A Pro-Am Event in 1995. In 1995, I gave up my amateur
status to become a golf professional. From 1995 through 1997, I played
on a "Mini" golf tour called the "MoonLight Tour" run by Frank & Mary
McGee at the time. The Moonlight Tour, based in the Tampa area, held
it's first tournament September 13, 1992, and became recognized as a
best-value golf tour for the developing tournament golfer. With
organized low-cost competitions, Moonlight continues to play year round,
4-5 days per week, at over 32 of the finest championship golf clubs in
the West Central Florida region. From 1997 through 2001, I played in
many Colorado Section Professional-Amateur (Pro-Am) and individual
events as a Golf Professional at Bear Creek Golf Club in Denver,
Colorado.

One of my very first lessons in golf was
to read, "Ben Hogan's Five Lessons", which was given to me by Bob Mayer,
who is a golf guru, friend, golf instructor and a long time coordinator
of The Junior Golf Program in Auburn, New York. Mr. Mayer always told me
the best way to learn is to teach! As a life long student
of the game, I absolutely agree with his statement.
No matter what we worked on in the golf swing and in life, Mr. Mayer
always taught the fundamentals. He believes some swing flaws are just
symptoms of the problem and not the "root" of the problem.
The main problem is always a "fundamentals" issue. You must look at
these problems as opportunities to change for the better. Stephen Covey
states, "Great golfers know just how important it is to master the
fundamentals". (Courtesy of "Straight from the Guru" by Stephen Covey)
One of the great names in golf, Jack Nicklaus, feels the same way.
"After months of tournament pressure, I find that parts of my swing have
changed," says Jack Nicklaus. "If I were to continue from year to year
without pausing to reevaluate my game, I could multiply my mistakes".
Students and teachers are advised to start every new season by reviewing
each part of their golf swing. Get an objective view - a mirror or
second person, to get a truer idea of what your swing looks like. Some
things you can correct yourself. Other things require the help of a
professional. Experienced golfers know that there is no shortcut to
developing the capability to handle any situation on the course with
excellence.
The lessons/sessions are 45 minute session. In addition, I will email
videos/still pictures and feedback for an additional fee. Packages of
lessons and series of lessons are available. I like to mix up the
lessons with full swing, short game, putting, and even playing
lessons...
My lessons are by appointment ONLY! As an independent contractor, the
golf balls are NOT included in the lesson. You must cancel within 24
hours or there will be a cancellation fee!
My teaching technique involves finding out your learning style. This
include visual (video and pictures), auditory and kinesthetic
(feel with the use of drills) learning styles.
There are two parts to the golf swing:
A) Balance,
Rhythm, and Tempo/Timing
Without these components, swing mechanics mean absolutely nothing.
B)
Swing Mechanics:
Specifically, I focus on getting you SET UP (GRIP, STANCE, POSTURE,
and ALIGNMENT) correctly. If we can master the SET UP, then the
mechanics will fall into place easier. This will give you a great
foundation and build confidence!!
I am looking forward to helping you learn Solid Golf Fundamentals!!

TESTIMONIALS
"I played a round of golf today and had a par and a birdie on the
front nine. Also, I trimmed another ten strokes off my game thanks
to last night's lesson. I really appreciate the fact that you are
building my swing one step at a time. I'll reschedule with the next
few days for more lessons!"
